I have had the opportunity to photograph and film many hockey players from Tim Horton’s little league to the Port Huron Ice Hawks and some of the best players to ever play in the NHL. I have photographed teams, action shots and head shots for hockey programs. When I got the call to shoot some promo photos of the only woman to have played in the NHL, I was excited. I was told she played goalie. Not knowing who this person was or what she looked like, I just assumed she would look like most of the other professional hockey players that I had met. Rough, tough, bruised, cut and maybe even missing some teeth. Boy was I wrong. As I walked into McMorran Ice Area, an attractive woman approached me. I thought this must be her publicist; she must be out on the ice already. I was pleasantly surprise when she shook my hand and said she was Manon Rheaume. Manon recently launched the Manon Rheaume Foundation to encourage young women to achieve their dreams. To kick off this initiative, she has joined the Port Huron Ice Hawks at their October training camp. She will also join the Detroit Red Wing Alumni for several Games this winter.
We wish Manon and her foundation much success.
